Tchaikovsky's most popular opera, the brilliant 'Eugene Onegin,' is brought to stage in this Virginia Opera premiere. Onegin is a jaded young aristocrat who carelessly rejects Tatyana after receiving a love letter in which she pours out her heart. Years later, he realizes his love for her, but it is too late. The libretto is based on the epic poem by Pushkin and much of the poetry has been retained. It is accompanied by Tchaikovsky's achingly beautiful, emotionally-charged score. This is Virginia Opera's first presentation of a Russian opera and it features the debut of a stunning Russian-born soprano, Veronica Mitina as Tatyana.
